About a Girl

Ashlie. 23. Iowa. Engaged. Aspiring Novelist. Fangirl. Book lover. Nocturnal.

I am obsessive by nature, and it’s probably because I’m such an uninteresting person. I still live at home with my parents and fiancee, but I’ll soon be married and whisked off to wherever the army sends Dustin and I. It’s exciting and terrifying and I alternate between ecstasy and horror. My sister is also at home and we still share a rocky relationship. Until she was seventeen, we never got along - no hyperbole, either. We had always been as different as night and day and it’s taken us a long time to get along well - and I’m still adjusting to affection from her. Unfortunately, I’m not very close to family. I’m close to my mother (which is both good and bad) and my father, but extended family often feels like strangers to me. I’m not the best social person.

I go through phases - many which become my forever, and my blog is very reflective of that. There is a variety of fandoms represented here, a regurgitated melting pot of everything that tickles my fancy. My friends have teased that when I’m on tumblr, I’m basically like: Oh! a kitty have to reblog it! OH look at this pretty picture! DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO!!!!!1! HARRY POTTER YEAH OMGG MORE CATS LOOK AT THIS CAT. And I guess it’s kind of true.

I’m a collector, primarily of books, giraffes, penguins, and rubber duckies. One day, I’ll post pictures. There are many, many giraffes in the collection of all sizes. Most are plushies, too. I have a weakness for plushies, you’ll find. I have a tendency to save things, though. All the letters and cards I’ve received from people are saved in a shoebox. I keep all my writing - even the most horrendous bits. (Let’s be real here. I don’t even delete things off my harddrive unless I HAVE to for space.)

I spent two years in community college for a Journalism. While there, I served on the newspaper and spent one year as Editor-in-Chief. Those were some of the best and worst nights of my life but I don’t regret any of them. In college, I met some of the best people to enter my life and I miss them dearly now that I’m in Iowa. You’ll find I’m a far more social person when I’m around people. I could just as easily live the rest of my life online socializing that way. :|

I love writing. It’s something I’ve been doing since I was a young child and I’ve never stopped doing it. It wasn’t but within the last five years I grew serious about my writing, though, to cultivate useful plots that I want to finish for publishing. There’s a lot of started manuscripts and even more fetuses floating around my folder to be written. Mostly, I write contemporary YA, though I have an outline for a fantasy YA. I like strong females who won’t throw away everything for a boy. I love to explore and play with the strengths and weakness of friendship. And I really love family dynamics.

If I’m not writing, though, I like to attempt Photoshop. I’m not anything great at it and often channel Ama (littlemissrue) who has been my guru through all my years of PS. Besides that, though, I’m a major sucker for Pokemon, Harvest Moon, and The Sims. For giggles, you can check out the first generation of my Legacy (sadly failed with the death of my computer.)

When I was younger, my father was in the army, but only until I was five. In my life, I have lived in Kansas, Germany, Arizona, Georgia, and Iowa. I’ve lived in 6 houses while I was in Kansas, in five different towns. Sadly, I lived in Germany from the time I was half a year to three and a half, so I lack any special memories nor retained anything more than danke. :|

I’d love to learn more languages, though! One day, I’d like to brush up on Spanish and better myself at it. I’d also love to learn Korean or Japanese. It’s only natural, given the way I’ve surrounded myself with Korean and Japanese culture.

I’m not really a big television watcher - I tend to watch only what my parents or sister is watching. Most of what I wind up watching is whatever I download, which tends to be Doctor Who or Asian dramas. In fact, as of late, I watch a LOT of dramas and I’m beginning to get into Asian variety shows. You will see copious amounts of kpop, jpop, kdramas, and jdramas all over my blog. I regret nothing. My bias is probably quite clear - I can’t help my B1A4 spam. They’re too delightful!
